Christmas News - 2009

It has been another busy year for us in Bonar Bridge. We have now completed and sold the two new houses in Cromarty and Joan's sister Gillian & husband Dave have moved into their new house. Jerry was very "hands on" even ending up as apprentice joiner during the building of the kits. It has been very rewarding to see a piece of waste ground turn into an attractive corner of Cromarty, with the new houses fitting well with the others of Nicol Terrace.

Wester Whinhill in Dornoch had a good season, with many guests returning from their second or third year. Bookings are looking good for 2010.

Jerry was captain of Ross County cricket team for most of the season, playing most Saturdays. He is also chairman of Dornoch Community Association and is leading the committee in their plans for a new build Community Centre. A feasibility study has been carried out, so they now need to get the funding in place. Exciting times!

Joan is Fund Raising Secretary of Bonar Bridge Community Hall which has just had a kitchen refurbishment, so we are now running some cookery workshops to make the most of the new facility. The refubishment of this old building is planned in phases, but hopefully we will have a warm & well insulted hall in time! The Allsorts After-School Club is now in its seventh year, but the recession is taking its toll on the numbers attending and grant funding is becoming more difficult. However with 40 new houses just completed and another 300 planned over the next 10-20 years, hopefully there should be enough working parents to secure its future.

Isla and Donald found a flat in Beauly and moved in last February. She taught at Park School in Invergordon to cover a maternity leave, but since August there has been very little supply work & no new posts. So Isla and Donald have gone travelling to New Zealand for 6 months. They have been tramping (hiking & camping) in South Island for the last six weeks and are now going to Waiheke Island on a conservation project for the Dotterel (bird).

Finally, Archie continues to entertain & exercise us. We have given up on the classes - it is clear that the owners can't be trained!

We would love to hear your news so please email or better still come and visit.

Wishing you all the best for the festive season and 2010.
